The European chiller market was US$ 1.6 billion in 2013, recording only a slight decline from 2012. The reciprocating, scroll, and screw chiller segment fell 2.4%, while the centrifugal chiller segment and absorption chiller segment saw increases of 15.1% and 2.9%, respectively.

1. Air Conditioner Market Takes Hit from Falling Yen
The yen has dropped sharply to the 120-yen range after trading for about two years at the 80-yen range since 2012. The currency depreciation has now made products produced in Japan more cost competitive, while air conditioners made overseas have lost some of their cost competitiveness compared to a few years ago. Will this trend cause Japanese air conditioner manufacturers to gear up shifting production back to Japan?

2. Chinese Capital Energizing the Global HVAC&R Market
Chinese manufacturers are playing active role in overseas HVAC&R business expansion, developing from air conditioner exporters to overseas investors. Relatively low labor costs and a fully developed supply chain have given the Chinese air conditioner industry a competitive edge. This edge, however, is gradually becoming overshadowed by rising labor costs in the country.

3. The Largest-ever AHR Expo Coming Soon in January 2015
The 2015 AHR Expo, set to take place at McCormick Place in Chicago, the United States, on January 26-28, will be the largest AHR Expo ever held. There will be more than 60,000 HVAC&R professionals filling the aisles and looking for new products and services from over 2,000 exhibiting companies from around the world.

4. ATW Sales in France Increase 33% in January-August
Sales of air-to-water (ATW) heat pumps, with a capacity of less than 17.5 kW, reached 39,696 units, this being a huge 33% increase, driven primarily by the construction of new, environmentally friendly and highly insulated homes along with the phase-out of certain refrigerants within the framework of the F-gas Regulation.

5. Carel Establishes HVAC &R Application Laboratory
Carel Suzhou HVAC&R application lab is managed by Carel Suzhou R&D center, subordinate to Carel Group headquarters lab. It has main three functions. First is electrical load matching test for brushless direct current (BLDC) motor compressors as well as refrigeration and freezing controllers. Second is training for China and Asia Pacific employees to get knowledge of HVAC&R. Third is test and display of humidifier products.
