According to BSRIA, US chiller market size was US$ 980.8 million in 2013, a 3.6% increase compared with US$ 946.8 million in 2012. Reciprocating, screw, and scroll chillers account for about half of the entire market. Centrifugal chillers take about 40% of the market, with absorption chillers (over 350 kW) taking the remaining 10%. All three chiller segments recorded gains in 2013 over 2012.

1. Use of Flammable Refrigerants
Adoption of refrigerants with low global warming potential (GWP) in the air conditioning and refrigeration sector is taking on urgency as a measure to prevent climate change. Many of the low-GWP refrigerants are mildly flammable. Meanwhile, there are also growing calls to use CO2 and hydrocarbons (HCs) as the natural working fluid in place of high-GWP HFCs.

2. Stulz CyberCool 2 Air-cooled Chiller for Data Centers
In data center environments, chillers are prized above all for their robust technical characteristics: constant, fail-safe performance and long operating life based on energy efficiency. Chillers from the Stulz CyberCool 2 series are available as air-cooled versions with and without free cooling, with an output range from 130 to 1,400 kW.

3. Tecumseh Put a Spotlight on AJ2 Compressor
Tecumseh AJ compressor is the commercial refrigeration standard recognized worldwide for its reliability and acoustic performance. Over 20 million AJ compressors are estimated to be in operation, running in normal to duty severe conditions. 4. DunAn Collaborates with University of Illinois
DunAn signed strategic cooperation agreement with the University of Illinois in the United States to develop air conditioning systems focusing on new heat exchangers such as microchannel type. The agreement has offered strong technology support for DunAn to set up international cooperation platform as well as implement new round of product transition and upgrading, laying solid foundation for its expansion in overseas market.

5. Mayekawa Delivers PascalAir to Major Korean Refrigerated Warehouse
At the end of September 2014, Mayekawa delivered a state-of- the-art refrigeration plant combining three PascalAir units for Korea’s first ultra-low temperature tuna storage warehouse (nominal storage capacity of 3,090 tons) using air refrigerant. The system was installed in Sea Sky Global’s plant within its head office premises. Mayekawa anticipates growing demand for PascalAir mainly in the ultra-low refrigerated tuna warehouse market. The system also offers benefits in a wide range of other applications.
