* ATW market in China
ATW heat pumps are often used as commercial water heaters to replace boilers, and the market is growing at a faster rate than even the air conditioner market. The Chinese ATW market in 2013 stood at 880,000 units, an increase of 25.9% over the previous year. A subsidy program offered by the government for purchases of ATW heat pump water heaters has sparked a surge in Chinese heat pump demand. The government has announced a series of incentives and subsidies to encourage purchases of energy-efficient electric products. Despite the end of energy-saving subsidies from the central government, many provinces have carried out trial implementation of policies to support the development of ATW heat pump water heaters, which have proven to be effective.

1. Basic VRF Technologies-Key VRF components
When considering the VRF refrigeration cycle, the inverter and electronic expansion valve are two essential components. When Inverters initially appeared on the market, VRF systems controlled the refrigerant flow rate by changing the number of non-inverter compressor units in operation or by using an unloader to perform step control. However, in addition to the aforementioned adoption of inverters, electronic expansion valves also came to be adopted, which are able to adjust the valve opening to change the capacity of indoor units. While making system design easier, this also further enhanced energy-saving performance.

2. Samsung Expanding AC Business in North America with Quietside
Samsung has acquired Quietside, a U.S.-based company that specializes in distributing air conditioner units, to help grow its air conditioning business in North America. Quietside has been the master distributor for Samsung HVAC products in the United States and Canada since 1997. Quietside will be increasing its personnel and infrastructure investment in North America in order to handle the continuing expansion of the split ductless and VRF product categories. Samsung has given its OEM partner Trane notice of the acquisition and will continue to their collaborative relationships the same as before.

4. Record High Rotary Compressors Sales Laden with Risks in China
Sales of several compressor manufacturers hit the record high in the 2014 refrigeration year (RY 2014: from August 2013 to July 2014). Industry statistics showed that the total sales volume of rotary compressors reached 149 million units in RY 2014, growing 22% over that of RY 2013, setting the new record. As a matter of fact, the high demand in RY 2014 holds some industry problems. Once the demand declines in RY 2015, the industry will face higher risk with expanded production capacity. The current market conditions such as falling real estate market, weak overseas demand, and overstock of air conditioners all indicate that the demand for rotary compressors will decrease in RY 2015.
