* ATW market in the United Kingdom
Compared with other countries in Europe, the United Kingdom’s economy is showing solid performance. Its ATW market scale came to approximately 19,100 units in 2013, an increase of 20%. The United Kingdom is Europe’s largest boiler market. The high initial cost of ATW units has created a challenge for UK market penetration since gas dominates 85% of heating systems. However, heat pumps have received attention as one means of achieving the government’s 20-20-20 targets. In line with this, the domestic Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) for heat pumps got underway in April 2014 to boost demand for the energy-saving equipment. For the next several years anyway, the UK market represents the most promising growth in Europe.
