JARN estimates total air conditioner demand in Africa at more than 3 million units in 2013, representing only 2.9% of the global air conditioner market. As the last big untapped market around the world, Africa represents a bright spot in the air conditioner industry. Its hot climate and huge population, two factors essential for growth in the air conditioner market.

1. Trane First with 1233zd Centrifugal Chiller
At the end of June, Trane (Ingersoll Rand) announced in France the launch of the Series E CenTraVac centrifugal chiller with capacities from 2,600 kW to 14,000 kW, which adopts next-generation refrigerant HFO-1233zd(E). This is the first commercialized chiller in the world to adopt the new refrigerant. It is up to 10% more energy efficient than the next-best chiller available in this tonnage, delivering industry leading efficiencies at both part load and full-load capacity.

2. Mitsubishi Electric Further Bolsters Presence in Turkish Market
Mitsubishi Electric announced on July 9 that its local subsidiary Mitsubishi Electric Turkey has completed the integration of its former air conditioning distributor Klima Plus, acquired earlier this year. The move will strengthen Mitsubishi Electric’s market share in the region as the business evolves to fully incorporate Klima Plus into the fold.

3. Record Performance for ebm-papst
Family-owned German fan and motor manufacturer ebm-papst reports a turnover of 1.5 billion Euro for the year ended March 31, 2014 - a growth of 11.2% compared with the previous year. The company has a total workforce of 11,700 (5,800 in Germany) and 18 production centers including Germany, China and the United States.

4. Kobe Symposium 2014 to Focus on Low-GWP Refrigerants and Applications
JRAIA will organize the International Symposium on New Refrigerants and Environmental Technology 2014 on November 20 and 21 at the International Conference Center in Kobe, Japan. Based on the ten-time results and experience of Kobe Symposium, this year’s conference is intended to be a global platform to exchange meaningful information on how to meet these challenging regulations as the HVAC&R industry.
