Of the various rare earth metals the manufacturing industry is generally dependent on China for supply, procurement of dysprosium, used in magnets for hybrid cars and air conditioner motors, looks set to get more difficult. At the beginning of September, the website of China’s state-run Xinhua News Agency reported that three districts in Ganzhou City, Jiangxi Province – China’s largest dysprosium-producing region – would completely halt production.
