Government Announces US$ 1.4 Billion Scheme for Food Processing Sector

In a major boost to the cold chain industry, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has rolled out a scheme to help micro food enterprises, farmer producers’ organizations, self-help groups, and cooperatives. The scheme, worth INR 100 billion (US$ 1.4 billion), will be implemented on the lines of prime minister’s vision of ‘vocal for local with global out-reach’, to help 200,000 micro food enterprises. Improved health and safety standards, integration with retail markets and improved incomes will be key focus areas.
