Summaries from two papers of the IIR co-sponsored International Conference on Compressors

Reduction of refrigeration compressors noise was an important topic addressed during the IIR-co-sponsored International Conference on Compressors (ICCR) in Xi’an, China, in July 2017.

In his paper*, Wang Haijun stresses that as the core of an air-conditioner, the compressor is one of the most important source of noise and vibration. Especially with the widespread application of inverter technology, concentrated winding and rare earth magnet are used more and more in inverter motors, which increases the noise of compressor significantly. The noise emitted by refrigerating compressor is a complex issue, since it includes aerodynamic noise, mechanical noise and electromagnetic noise. The author proposes a motor noise calculation method based on multi-physics field simulation. The method is applied to a compressor development project, in which motor noise is calculated and compared to the test results. Results show that the peak noise has been reduced by 8dB and overall noise condition has also been improved.
