2.11 AFRICA
2018/01/22
Overall economic conditions in Africa were not favorable in 2017, and summer weather was relatively mild. The African air conditioner market in 2017 reached 2.8 million units, showing a decline of 1.6% compared with 2016. Nigeria, Egypt, Algeria, Libya, and South Africa are the major markets in this region.

Ductless split units have moved into the mainstream in recent years and take nearly 86% of the market. This is because the price difference with window units is small and split units are more adaptable to various requirements.

Although it is generally thought that Africa has a very hot climate, heat pump systems are used in certain cooler regions during win-ter. Heat pump air conditioners accounted for about 33% of all air conditioners sold in North Africa in 2017. Countries in central Africa mainly use cooling-only air conditioners.
