EDF Develops Water-cooled High-Temperature Heat Pump
2018/01/21
The R&D division of EDF, France’s power utility giant, has developed Paco, a very - high-temperature industrial heat pump that uses water as its working fluid. The heat pump has many advantages compared with previous designs: it has no negative impact on global warming, and has a high performance and simpler regulatory constraints.

Paco heat pump uses no chemical refrigerant for its operation, just water. This unique feature enables Paco to supply heat up to 130°C, making it exceptionally energy efficient and ensuring a minimal environmental impact. The heat pump is designed to address industrial heating needs, especially for processes requiring low-pressure steam and releasing waste heat in the form of liquid discharges at temperatures below 100°C.
