Fans and Fan Motors
2017/12/24
Fans and motors play an important role, just like compressors and heat exchangers, in determining the performance of air conditioners. In the case of an air-cooled air conditioner, its indoor unit and outdoor unit are equipped with at least a pair of a fan and a motor, and supply a required amount of air to the heat exchanger. The numbers of fans and motors used for such purposes in room air conditioners (RACs) and packaged air conditioners (PACs) are estimated to surpass 250 million and 233 million units respectively.

Fans are designed according to air conditioner types such as window, split, packaged, and other types. In the case of window type air conditioners, for example, a sirocco fan is usually used in the indoor unit and a propeller fan in the outdoor unit, and both fans are driven by a single fan motor. For vertical window type air conditioners sold in Japan and other countries, one cross-flow fan is vertically mounted on the indoor side and another on the outdoor side, and each revolves independently.
