Frascold RSH Capacity Regulation System for CO2 Subcritical Compressors

Frascold developed a patented reduced suction head (RSH) regulation system, suitable for controlling refrigerant flow of 2- and 4-cylinder CO2 (R744) subcritical compressors. This exclusive regulation device, granting a constant flow of refrigerant through the activated cylinders, allows to cut 50% of the flow rate of each cylinder head without any risk of valve plate overheating, oil accumulation in the cylinders, limiting the operating time, and increasing vibrations and noise. Besides, RSH doesn’t require sophisticated and expensive controls, only with programmable logic controller (PLC) to switch on-off the capacity control valve.
 
Typically, capacity control in R744 booster systems is including many variable frequency drive (VFD) devices that can even be equal to the number of installed compressors. When there is a consistent number of subcritical compressors, the investment in the capacity control devices can be quite important. RSH makes it possible to save costs by reducing the number of VFDs, without impacting on the precise control on evaporating temperatures.
