According to BSRIA, Mexico is the largest chiller market in Latin America followed by Brazil. The combined market scale of Mexico and Brazil in 2016 recorded US$ 154.2 million, an 11% year-on-year decrease.
 
When large roof surfaces are available, rooftop units provide greater flexibility in terms of installation, and they are often preferred over chillers in Latin America for large-capacity commercial applications such as supermarkets.
 
While Japanese manufacturers are decreasing their investments, Chinese manufacturers are aggressively investing in the Latin American market. With these increasing investments, Chinese-brand air conditioning systems are expanding their market share.
 
In Brazil, chillers are mainly produced for local use due to high import duties imposed by the Brazilian government. The U.S. top three, namely Carrier, York, and Trane, all have chiller production facilities in Brazil.
