Trends in Renewable Energy Utilization
2017/08/24
Renewable energy includes solar photovoltaic (PV), solar heat, wind, hydropower, geothermal heat, airsource heat pumps, wave power, ocean thermal energy conversion and other naturally occurring thermal sources, and biomass. Renewable energy can be used again and again without depleting the resource, and produces little or no planetwarming carbon dioxide when generating electricity or utilizing the thermal energy.

Until quite recently, fossil fuels such as oil, coal, and natural gas were our main source of energy. Demand for energy has continued to increase on a global scale along with the economic development of emerging countries among other factors. At the same time, energy markets have become less stable, and fossil fuel commodities are experiencing price volatility. In addition, reducing greenhouse gas emissions from the use of fossil fuels has become a major issue.
