2. 8 AUSTRALIA
2017/05/28
The Australian VRF market scale in 2016 is estimated at 12,000 units, indicating 11.1% year-on-year growth.

The overall Australian residential market is thriving, and is driving sales of mini-VRFs. It was estimated that mini-VRFs accounted for 33% of the total VRF market in Australia. The sharp rise in mini-VRF demand was attributed to higher demand from urban high-rise condominium projects. The 6-hp capacity range is most popular in the country. The main consumer group is the middle-to-upper class. The mini-VRF market should grow at least 15% over the next two or three years.

In addition to mini-VRF systems, a number of other VRF variations including hybrid VRF models that combine the advantages of VRF and chillers, heat recovery VRF systems that perform simultaneous heating and cooling operations, and GHP VRF systems are also present on the Australian market. With the advent of stricter energy-saving standards, heat recovery VRFs are attracting a lot of attention, and are securing a rising market share. In 2016, the percentage of heat recovery type systems was about 18% of the total VRF market.
