Chinese Specialists Carry out R290 AC Training in Maldives
2017/04/26
At present, countries around the world are accelerating the phaseout of hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs) according to the framework of the Montreal Protocol. Room air conditioners (RACs) are a major consumer of HCFC refrigerants and are also one of the most important areas for HCFC phase-out.

From February 12 to 16, a Chinese team of experts went to the Maldives to communicate and to discuss the current situation of replacement technologies in the RAC industry, training in the installation and maintenance of RACs using inflammable refrigerants, and problems at the levels of the curriculum and standards.

In the first stage of the HCFC phase-out plan, the Chinese RAC industry selected R410A as a transitional alternative refrigerant, and the hydrocarbon refrigerant R290 as the main alternative refrigerant. So far, retrofits of production lines used for R290 air conditioners and compressors have been completed. Training centers for the installation and maintenance of R290 air conditioners have been built or are under construction.

Next, the Chinese RAC industry will focus on the construction and revision of industrial standards, assisting more technical projects, strengthening market promotion, promoting applications of R290 air conditioning in public buildings, and the setting up of personnel training and certification systems for maintenance.
