Panasonic, jointly with Tokyo Gas, has developed new Ene-Farm residential fuel cell models. Panasonic manufactures the fuel cell unit and supplies it to Tokyo Gas after combining it with the hot water storage unit and backup heat source unit. Tokyo Gas will release the combined set from April 1, 2017.
Thanks to the reduction in the number of parts/components and other improvements, the recommended retail price of the new products dropped below \ 1.5 million (US$13,000) for the first time in Japan.
The new models also have a strengthened resilience function that is very helpful in an emergency. Thanks to this resilience function, the new models are capable of continuous power generation for up to about eight days, or about twice as long as that of the conventional models for city gas. Even when the Ene-Farm stops operating during a power failure, the new models can be started by supplying AC 100 V from the storage battery or power generator available in the market.
