Starting in spring 2017, Mayekawa will release the new air-cooled Sierra-A as the second in the series of natural refrigerant chilled packaged Sierra series using ammonia (NH3) as the primary refrigerant and liquefied carbon dioxide (CO2) as the secondary refrigerant for the domestic market.
The new product adopts in its air-cooled condenser a microchannel heat exchanger that is light in weight, has a high heat transfer performance, and can minimize the internal quantity of refrigerant retained. Featuring a module design for linked operation, it can realize space-saving linkage of up to four units. Also, by success-fully reducing the quantity of NH3
retained, it has limited the ammonia refrigerant charge to 3.5 kg, that is, the same as in the water-cooled type. Thanks also to the indirect cooling system adopting a natural refrigerant, Sierra-A has realized both safety and energy savings. Although it is small in size, it can realize energy savings comparable to those achieved by the large NH3
