In 2016, the business-to-customer (B2C) online sales of home appliances including mobile terminals in China reached RMB 179.6 billion (US$ 26 billion), an increase of 35.3%, excluding mobile terminals. Home appliances took the lead in total on-line sales with a growth rate that was 9.7% higher than other real goods, and 6.5% higher than the usage-type real goods. In 2016, the online shop-ping rate for home appliances sales approached 20%. JD.com, Tmall, and Suning were the three biggest plat-forms, with market shares of 62%, 26%, and 10.5%, respectively.
Total online sales of four home appliances, i.e. flat TVs, air conditioners, refrigerators, and washing machines, reached RMB 116.1 billion (US$ 16.8 billion) in 2016, a year- on-year increase of 34.9%, with flat TVs accounting for RMB 49.4 billion (US$ 7.2 billion), air conditioners totaling RMB 29.6 billion (US$ 4.3 billion), refrigerators achieving RMB 19.6 billion (US$ 2.8 billion), and washing machines ac-counting for RMB 17.5 billion (US$ 2.5 billion).
