China is expected to surpass the United States and become the leading country in the world clean energy market. China invested US$ 32 billion in renewable energy in 2016, an increase of 60%, including 11 overseas investment projects worth more than US$ 1 billion.
In 2015, China invested more than US$ 100 billion in the clean energy field, twice the investments made by the United States. Among the 8.1 million job opportunities in the renewable energy field, 3.5 million are located in China, while the United States has less than 1 million. Thirteen million new job opportunities will be created by new investments during the period spanning 2016 to 2020.
Solar panels are the key field of China’s clean energy industry. Five of the six largest solar panel manufacturers are located in China. Additionally, China has made great progress in the electric vehicle market. In 2015, China surpassed the United States to become the largest electric vehicle market with 200,000 new electric vehicles put in to use over a one-year period.
