The 2016 Global Cold Storage Capacity Report from Global Cold Chain Alliance (GCCA) showed that the total global cold storage capacity was 600 million m3 in 2016, an increase of 8.6% since 2014. According to the report, cold storage capacity in China has experienced steady growth since 2014.
The data also revealed that much of the increase in refrigerated warehousing space came from new construction in emerging markets, especially in China with more than 30 million m3. The total cold storage capacity in China reached 107 million m3, an increase of 21% since 2014. China has now joined the group of countries with a cold storage capacity of more than 100 million m3.
It is estimated that cold chain logistics in China will expand by 25% in 2017. The main investments will be in refrigerated transport of fresh agricultural products. There will be 15 agricultural product cold chain logistic centers in the planning stages during the next five years.
