Self- congratulatory ‘Saving American Jobs’
At the beginning of December 2016, president-elect Donald Trump visited a plant in Indianapolis, Indiana operated by leading air conditioner manufacturer Carrier to announce an agreement struck with Carrier to revise its plans to relocate the plant to Mexico. While yet to take office, Donald Trump praised on his unorthodox political intervention in the business affairs of an individual company as results of the election.
In his speech in front of Carrier employees, Donald Trump stated, “...United Technologies (UTC) and Carrier stepped it up and now they’re keeping [jobs], which is so great.” Donald Trump touted that with his plan to cut business taxes and ease regulations, companies would no longer see a reason to leave the United States.
