Mega Image, a leading Romanian supermarket chain, has decided to renovate and to optimize the energy efficiency of its stores. Most refrigeration installations in the stores were operating on high global warming potential (GWP) refrigerants, so Mega Image is working with French refrigerant manufacturer Climalife to compare R404A with various lower GWP refrigerants, i.e. R407F, R448A, and R449A. Besides seeking lower GWP refrigerant solutions, Mega Image has decided to reduce electricity consumption by optimizing the energy efficiency of its refrigeration systems.
Following tests, Solstice N40 (R448A) was chosen as the best option for low-temperature applications. The discharge temperature measured with R448A proved to be lower that of R404A for low-temperature applications, thus reducing operating costs and energy consumption. By switching to a refrigerant with a lower GWP, systems formerly operating on R404A can operate in compliance with F-gas Regulations and will reduce the global warming impact by reducing energy consumption.
