Sapa’s Web-MPE evaporator concept has the potential to change the established heat exchanger market from mechanically assembled fin-and-tube to brazed aluminum solutions.
The new Web-MPE is an extension to the existing multiport extruded (MPE) tube used in microchannel heat exchangers (MCHEs).
Until now, MCHEs have mainly been used for air conditioning condensers and chillers, and never successfully introduced as evaporators, heat pump coils, and refrigeration condensers - and this for functionality reasons.
A test in a commercial freezer application showed that the Web-MPE not only met, but beat the traditional fin-and-tube evaporator on more parameters as it has surplus cooling capacity, and defrosted/drained much faster. The system refrigerant charge and the built-in depth of the heat exchanger were reduced by 30% each.
