Johnson Controls (JCI) has introduced a new YHAU range of York absorption chillers and YHAP heat pumps suited for a variety of comfort or industrial process cooling applications. Absorption chillers are the ideal choice when suitable waste heat is available and are commonly applied in commercial buildings; combined heat and power (CHP); turbine inlet air cooling and district energy systems.
The York absorption units are designed to maximize performance and use an innovative two-step evaporator and absorber cycle, making it more efficient and reliable than conventional designs. Splitting the absorption process into two steps allows for lower lithium-bromide solution concentrations in the system. This translates into benefits such as higher system efficiency as the absorption cycle can be driven by lower source hot-water temperature into the generator. Total operating costs are reduced as the chiller can function with lower hot water flow rates and reduced pumping energy. Additionally, variants such as the YHAU-CG direct fired absorption chillers and heaters offers an option of using natural gas, light oil or other fuels to fire the absorption refrigeration cycle.
