The Brazilian economy has slumped and is faced with severe depreciation, leading to stagnation of construction for many large projects.
Reflecting such a situation, chiller demand in Brazil was US$ 72.5 mil-lion in 2015, a sharp decrease of 59.2% over the previous year. All chiller segments recorded decreases in 2015: Screw 59.4%, scroll 57.1%, centrifugal 51.6%, and absorption 84.2%. Chiller demand in Brazil will take a long time to recover.
Chillers in the range of 200 kW to 700 kW dominate the Brazilian market. Scroll chillers between 100 kW and 200 kW are popular. In contrast, demand for reciprocating chillers is shrinking. They are mostly adopted for replacement purposes and are likely to gradually disappear from the market.
