The first step in combating global warming
The Paris Agreement, the historic global pact to address climate change from 2020, went into force on November 4. Enforcement came less than a year after the agreement was adopted at the 21st session of the Conference of the Parties (COP21) in December 2015 and represents the first-ever legally binding international climate agreement.
The 22nd session of the Conference of the Parties (COP22) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) began on November 7 in Marrakesh, Morocco. This represents the first meeting of the countries and regions that ratified the Paris Agreement, where they begin the process of hammering out the detailed rules that will be included in the climate deal.
