Saudi Arabia maintained the largest scale of the five key markets in the Middle East in 2015. Saudi Arabia’s chiller market recovered from the decline in 2014 and increased by 23.3% to US$ 242.4 million in 2015. The centrifugal chiller market boomed and achieved a huge increase of 49.2%, reaching US$ 82.2 million. The screw chiller market also increased by 15.3% to US$ 137.2 million. These two types of chillers dominate the Saudi Arabian chiller market and have a market share of over 90% on a value basis. Saudi Arabia is the largest market for district cooling systems in the Middle East, and this market boosts the centrifugal chiller demand. One feature of the Saudi Arabian market is the higher number of U.S.-manufactured, high-priced centrifugal chillers sold here than in other Middle Eastern countries. York, Trane, and Carrier are the market leaders in the chiller and rooftop segments. U.S. manufacturers are focusing not on stand-alone chiller sales, but on selling building solution packages with energy-saving lighting and other equipment as well as security, fire protection, building management systems, and other non-hardware technologies.
