According to BSRIA, the total chiller market in seven countries, namely Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Vietnam, Myanmar, and Cambodia, recorded a 3.7% year-on-year decline to US$ 306.5 million in 2015. The bright spot was the scroll chiller market, which increased by 17.3% to US$ 22.0 million. However, all other chiller types, i.e. reciprocating, screw, centrifugal, and absorption, showed negative growth.
The main chillers used in Southeast Asia are in the 200?300 ton class. Most centrifugal chillers have a capacity of less than 1,000 tons. Screw chillers below 200 tons are mostly locally manufactured. Enhancing building energy performance is gaining prominence in Southeast Asia. There are more governments in the region that are enacting policy to encourage green buildings.
