In this Journal, we recently commented on the general economic conditions in Italy. After a negative trend which lasted several years, there are finally signs of a recovery, though modest, with some improvements in private investments. GDP growth is increasing slightly, and so is the employment rate. Current figures are not impressive; however, people and enterprises are starting to regain confidence in a better future.
Unfortunately, Europe and al - most the entire Western world are continuously affected by political, social, and economic adverse conditions that definitely influence all countries, Italy included. It is to be noted that Italy will be holding a ‘referendum’ on important constitutional changes: if the government’s proposals are rejected, there will be serious concerns regarding a new period of uncertainty.
