JARN estimates the Philippine air conditioner market scale at about 690,000 units in 2015.
With a U.S.-style air conditioner culture, an expanding middle class, and an air conditioner penetration rate of 7%, the market is forecast to expand at an increasingly fast rate in the near term. Exports of air conditioners from China to the Philippines approached 520,000 units in 2015, showing 20% year-on-year growth.
In tropical areas like the Philippines, cooling-only air conditioners are overwhelmingly popular. Unlike many other countries in Southeast Asia, window units dominate the market, accounting for about twothirds of the market. The high cost of installation is one factor hampering the penetration of ductless split units in the country.
