Indonesia is the largest air conditioner market in Southeast Asia, with a market scale that hit 2.6 million units in 2015, indicating 6.9% year-on-year growth. Indonesia has a large population of 200 million and a hot climate. Both these factors contribute to ongoing RAC market expansion.
In the Indonesian air conditioner market, small split units (1/2-1 hp) occupy 80% of the total market. Broken down by capacity, the share of 1/2-hp units accounts for 40%, followed by 30% for 1-hp units and 10% for 3/4-hp units. As for indoor units, wall-mounted types are the most popular.
Japanese manufacturers are promoting inverter units, but their penetration stands at a mere 3.7%. Non-inverter type cooling-only units dominate the market. Since the price of electricity is set to rise, demand for energy-saving air conditioners will increase.
