The concept of transferring a fluid by combining a pair of same -shaped scroll wraps is said to have existed for a long time. During the period ranging from the late 1800s to the early 1900s, many patents based on this concept were applied in Europe and the United States as a mechanism incorporated in pumps, engines, fluid motors, compressors, etc.
For the past 40 years, most of the industrial and consumer uses of fluorinated gases have been controlled by regulations. Choices of refrigerant gas in heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment as well as in other applications, such as foam blowing, aerosol, medical inhalers, etc., depend heavily on the market’s need to comply with international and national regulations.
Opteon XL41 is a replacement for R410A in new equipment. XL41 provides the lowest GWP available (466) of all near-drop-in solutions with a reduction of 78% compared to R410A. In addition to that, it is a very close match to R410A and in some cases even provides superior performances with respect to capacity and efficiency.
The temperature in Africa was higher in the first half of 2018 than the previous year. However, several West African countries did not experience very hot days. After suffering challenging weather conditions and stagnant economies for many years, the African RAC market started to bounce back and has seen 10% growth in the first half of 2018.
In the Middle East, weather and economic conditions are not favor-able this year. Social instability has greatly impacted the RAC market, which decreased by about 13% in the first half of 2018.
Export business from China to the Latin American market was quite brisk. From January to May 2018, the export of RACs from China reached to 3.3 million units, indicating 23% year-on-year growth.
In first half of 2018, Oceanian RAC market decreased by 12% compared with the same period of 2017. At the beginning of this year, Australia’s RAC market got off to a good start. Beginning in April, however, the market stalled and shipments fell sharply.
According to data from JRAIA, Japanese domestic shipments of RACs in the first half of 2018 reached 5.02 million units, up 4.4% over the same period of the previous year. RACs are products that tend to be affected greatly by weather.
The weather in China was hot this summer. However, the hot weather came late and there was no large-scale heat wave like last year. The Chinese RAC market continued to grow, with slower growth of no more than 10%.
From March to April this year, the weather in India has been cold. It started to get hot in May, but soon afterwards, the rainy season came earlier than usual in the south. This large 5 million-unit RAC market has stagnated this year.
Southeast Asia’s RAC market has been affected by the weather for two consecutive years, causing a continuous decline in sales. According to JARN estimates, in the first half of this year, the Southeast Asian RAC market was 19% lower than last year. The window type RAC demand is negligible in this region excluding the Philippines.
The unemployment rate in the United States was at its lowest level since April 2000 and was close to reaching the Federal Reserve’s forecast of 3.6% by the end of this year. The U.S. economic climate in the first half of 2018 has encouraged strong air conditioning market growth.
In the first half of this year, the European RAC market has seen a slight increase of 3% compared with last year. Weather conditions were similar to those experienced last year, and the long period of intense heat that occurred in Europe two years ago did not occur this year.
The major room air conditioner (RAC) markets in Southeast Asia, namely Thailand, Vietnam, and Malaysia, experienced frequent rain this year and a short summer like last year. RAC demand in the region has been stagnant for two consecutive years. However, it is clear that inverters have a higher energy saving performance than non-inverters.
