* Europe (World Heat Pumps Market)
According to European Heat Pump Association (EHPA) statistics, the 2012 European market for heating-only ATWs came to nearly 214,500 units, an increase of 6.7% over 2011. Breaking this down, space heating accounted for more than 158,000 units and water heating for almost 56,500 units.

1. MHIAE Looks to Promising Future in Europe
On April 1, 2013, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries began operations at Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Air-Conditioning Europe (MHIAE), a new company established as its company responsible for AC&R in Europe, in Stockley Park, United Kingdom, not far from Heathrow Airport. Specializing in sales and after-sales service of air conditioning equipment, the company aims to build a flexible business structure and develop proposal-based sales activities to expand sales in the key market of Europe. JARN visited MHIAE’’s head office and interviewed Managing Director Takehiko Kikuchi and General Manager Yuji Ito to hear about the status of developments at the new venture.

2. Ingersoll Rand Engineering & Technology Center Celebrates its 10th Anniversary in Shanghai
On June 13, 2013, Ingersoll Rand Asia Pacific Engineering & Technology Center (IRETC) celebrated its ten year anniversary in Shanghai.  Since its establishment in 2003, IRETC has achieved rapid annual growth and has built a world-class laboratory in Taicang, China. Besides holding responsibilities for product design, R&D, experimentation and verification, IRETC also provides technical and field support.

3. Honeywell’s HFO-1234yf Refrigerant Proves Lower GWP than CO2
Honeywell announced recently that a new study has found that its low-global- warming refrigerant, HFO-1234yf, has a global warming potential (GWP) four times lower than previously calculated - below that of carbon dioxide - enhancing its standing as one of the world’s most environmentally friendly refrigerants.

4. JCI Power Solutions Opens European Headquarters in Germany
On August 1, Johnson Controls Power Solutions unveiled a newly remodeled European headquarters in Germany. The building meets the standards for the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold Certification and underscores the company’s commitment to sustainability.

5. Techno-Frontier 2013 Shows Off Advanced Technologies held in Tokyo, Japan
A total of 480 companies (412 from Japan and 68 from eight overseas countries and regions) participated in the current exposition, where they showed off their innovative power semiconductors, industrial high-efficiency motors, and other technologies key to energy savings as well as state of- the-art technologies supporting Japanese industry.
