Recently, however, energy-efficient ductless splits are attracting growing interest as energy problems and costs intensify, and mini splits, mini VRF, and VRF systems have started to penetrate the market.

1. Mitsubishi Electric Adds Training Centers in Chicago and Orlando in U.S.
To meet the growing demand for service and application training among HVAC contractors and engineers, Mitsubishi Electric Cooling & Heating, a division of Mitsubishi Electric & Electronics USA, has opened two additional Mitsubishi Electric Training Centers.

2. Centrifugal Compressor
The centrifugal compressor is the most important component of the centrifugal chiller. The centrifugal compressor market size in China in 2012 was 4,800 units. Because of the reduced economic development in 2012, the market increase was only about 3% compared with 2011. Nevertheless, it is expected that the sales in 2013 will see a big increase with the economic recovery in China.

3. Global Warming Prevention Expo Held in Tokyo
At the exposition, various types of eco-friendly technologies for the global warming prevention measures were shown, including energy saving technologies/services, eco cars, countermeasures against heat islands, urban greening measures, and measures for regeneration of nature involving the preservation ecological systems.

4. Inaba to Start Manufacturing Copper Tubes in Thailand
The company plans to manufacture the copper tubes connecting air conditioner outdoor and indoor units along with tube facing covers and supply them within Thailand and to Indonesia. The value of these materials, which can be manufactured by the subsidiary, is ￥2 billion/year. Inaba intends to make the subsidiary into a center of supply to the ASEAN countries.

5. French Air Conditioner Market in 2012
Trade figures collected by Uniclima for 2012 show total chiller sales of 6,800 units (7% fall compared with 2011), although BSRIA estimates 8,700 units in 2012 and a fall of 4%. The greatest impact was in rating ranges above 200 kW which lost 13% in sales. VRF systems sold 14,800 installations (in terms of the number of external units) in 2012, a fall of around 4%. The most popular indoor unit remains the cassette at over half the total number sold.
