Screw & Centrifugal Compressors

There are currently two types of large refrigeration compressors, centrifugal and screw compressors. Dr. Willis H. Carrier developed a water-cooled chiller for air conditioning, using a centrifugal compressor for the first time in the world in 1922. For the next four decades, during 1930s to 1960s, major U.S. heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) manufacturers developed centrifugal chillers utilizing their own technologies and entered into the market.
