Bumper Grain Output Cools of Food Inflation
2011-05-13
Food inflation which had risen to an average of 16% in the year 2010 and 2011 is estimated to drop to close to 8% in 2011 and 2012, helped by a record production of food grains such as wheat, rice and pulses, which form a major part of the staple diet of people in India. Wheat is poised for a bumper production of 84 million tonnes in the current agricultural year (July 2010 - June 2011).
